I’m so glad it’s finally Friday! As I’ve mentioned, I run an outdoor pool at my job. It’s a very small part of my overall job, but in the summer, it seems to consume my life! I’m usually at work from 9-6 during the week and then I’m either in both or at least 1 weekend day. Last weekend, it rained and it was unusually cold… so while I had to go in briefly on both weekend days, I kind of felt like I had the weekend off 🙂
Here are some things that are currently going on!
1—I have another race on Sunday! I’m running in a race called Running for Hope 5k in a southside suburb of Chicago. It is advertised as a flat and fast course… so I’m hoping I can bring down my current 5k PR set just a few weeks ago, 30:36, with this course! My second cousin, her stepsister and her stepsister’s son will all be partaking in the race as well. Afterwards we will be heading back to my second uncle’s house for some breakfast. I thought we’d be eating home cooking, but my cousin informed me they ordered catering from Corner Bakery… sounds good to me!
2—I did my long run last night for the week! When I found out this week that I got into the Chicago Marathon, my training program quickly changed. Instead of the 6.5 mile long run that was on the itinerary for the Disneyland Half Training, it said to do 11 miles for the Chicago Marathon Training. This run was especially difficult… it had been since May 9 since my last half marathon and my longest run since then was just 5 miles. But like the true fighter that I am… I finished! I’m not going to give up this easily! Especially when I got this incredible opportunity to run in the Marathon!
3—On Monday, after I got the call that I got into the Chicago Marathon… they made me fill out a ton of paperwork and send it back. I sent back the paperwork on Tuesday and then heard NOTHING. I started to get a little nervous. They finally contacted me on Wednesday and told me that they got all my documents and they would contact me again soon to arrange a get together with the other winners (I’m not sure if all 5 finalists won the contest?). I’ll be sure to post pictures when I get my $1450 watch!
Have a great weekend! I’m looking forward to my race, starting our swim lesson program and potentially seeing a brand new pre-Broadway show about Gloria Estefan’s life–I can pretty much sit in the front row for $35!
