Weekly Recap

Monday, January 5th: 4.18 miles running (10:46 pace on treadmill)

Tuesday, January 6th:  Rest Day (traveling to Disney)

Wednesday, January 7th:  Rest Day (expo day!!)

Thursday, January 8th Walt Disney World 5k (54:13—16:27 pace)

Friday, January 9th:  Walt Disney World 10k (1:26:41—13:29 pace)

Saturday, January 10th:  Walt Disney World Half Marathon (2:57:25—13:19 pace)

Sunday, January 11th:  Walt Disney World MARATHON (5:12:13—11:42 pace)

It’s official… I’m a marathoner!!  The Dopey Challenge (5k, 10k, Half, and Full Marathon) was an incredible experience.  Who would have thought that a girl who could barely run a half a mile in January 2013, would be running 48.6 miles in 4 days?!  It is just as crazy as it sounds.

I cannot wait to share all of the excitement with you from the entire experience.  From the expo on Wednesday morning—which felt like RunDisney Black Friday with people going crazy over Dopey merchandise—to the frigid temperatures for most of the races—I didn’t wear shorts for any of the races and I was in Florida!!

Would I ever do the Dopey Challenge again?!  Hell no!  It wasn’t because of the early morning wake up calls (I set the alarm each morning for 2:45 am to make sure I was on the bus by 3:40 am to start the race at 5:30 am… ahh!) but it was all the training that went into this race.  I gave up so much to get in all the training miles done for Dopey.  I knew that when I signed up for this challenge that the training would be tough and it was!  There were 3 weeks where I did 4 days in a row with 4, 5, 10 and 20 miles… that was rough especially when you had other things going on as well personally and professionally.

Would I ever do a marathon again?!  The answer to that question is—hell yeah!!  The training was intense but I know I can do it and pushing myself outside my comfort zone was an incredible experience.  I’m fairly certain, I am going to be registering for a marathon in May and then possibly trying to get into the Chicago Marathon in October.  I love half marathons and that is my preferred distance but I could do a full every once in awhile.

  1. Yay for being Dopey! So many people say that Dopey is a one and done experience. I’m intrigued to find out how many people will being Dopey next year for the third year in a row.

  5. AHHHHH, CONGRATS!!! So excited for you — can’t wait to read your recap(s)! I would STRONGLY agree — it’s the weeks and weeks of training that makes it such a challenge. I honestly think Dopey was a one-time thing for me, too!
